Motto-Portrait is a concept by the artist-painter Pascale Lef.

The artist creates portraits from photographies and words or mottos representing the person. These unique works can be commissioned or presented as a live performance, during which the face and text gradually appear before the audience's eyes.
Ideal as a personalized gift (birthday, wedding, retirement, tribute, bar mitzvah…), each portrait combines image and words to reveal the essence of a person, namely: Identity, impactful phrases, slogans, motivations, and above all what we want to remember, reveal, repeat, tell and pass on about them…

Tell your loved ones with a picture that you love them and why!

Option 1 :

Commission for a Motto-Portrait created by Pascale Lef :

Ordering a Motto-portrait is done as follows: After your paiement, all you need to do is provide the currency and good-quality photos of the person to be portrayed. After approval, Pascale will send you an agreement with delivery dates; please allow approximately one month for delivery.

Option 2 :

Motto-Portrait Performance by Pascale Lef :

Offer a unique artistic experience: Pascale creates a live portrait from photos and words or mottos provided beforehand, depicting the person on a vertically stretched silk canvas. Backlit, the silk reveals the colors of the ink like a living stained-glass window, creating a poetic and immersive atmosphere.

A writing that becomes a face

The text, dedicated to the person being honored, can be prepared in advance or co-created with the public. Under the artist's guidance, everyone can participate by dictating or writing a few words directly on the canvas, making the work deeply personal.

A tailor-made performance

The duration of the creation is entirely adapted to the event. Pascale modulates speed, space and gestures according to the venue and the program.

A lasting work

After the performance, the canvas is fixed to restore its texture and ensure its longevity. The original artwork is then shipped to the buyer. Signed and numbered giclée prints (or screen prints) are also available in A3 or A4 sizes.

A Memorable Souvenir

The Motto-Portrait is an elegant way to preserve the memory of a musical, theatrical, or ceremonial event. A work of art that captures emotions, wishes, and memories, like an open guestbook.

Why offer a pictorial performance?

To preserve the visual and emotional record of a musical, theatrical, or ceremonial moment. A work that captures both the instant and the words—like a living, open guestbook.

The photo of the couple (click on it) was originally commissioned to celebrate a wedding. The dress code was that each guest wore a single color of clothing from head to toe. Each guest then used this color to write their best wishes to the newlyweds. The artwork measures 55 x 75 inches  (190cm x 140cm). The couple were scuba divers!

About Pascale Lef :

Pascale is a Franco-Dutch multidisciplinary visual artist based in Amsterdam.
She graduated from the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2016.
She maintains a close relationship with music and sound, both in her work and in her life.
One of her works, a 13-meter-long graphic sound installation entitled "Manifesto," was exhibited at the COBRA Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam in 2017.
She also inspired the writer, poet, and punk rock icon Patty Smith, who acquired one of her prints entitled "Liberté" (Freedom): a work that blends words, lines of sound frequencies, and poetry.
Pascale plays the piano and twice won first prize at the Nerini Competition in Paris, at the ages of 10 and 12.
It is interesting to note that she also favors traditional painting techniques, such as oil painting, tempera, and batik on silk.
In these works, her artistic evolution consistently highlights the importance of bodily perception in the final result.
