BIOGRAPHY Christine Mennesson
Christine Mennesson trained at various regional conservatories, where she won several prizes (guitar, counterpoint, harmony, analysis), before graduating from the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP) with a degree in composition and electroacoustic research (1985).
She studied analysis and serial counterpoint with Max Deutsch and J. Richer, as well as spectral music analysis with Tristan Murail, followed by musical acoustics.
Christine Mennesson then studied composition with Franco Donatoni in Italy.
Alongside her study of computer languages and studio techniques related to writing, she is learning ancient languages (Gregorian chant, languages of the 14th and 15th centuries, tablature reading, 16th-century counterpoint).
At the 1988 Darmstadt International Music Festival (Germany), his music achieved its first successes with Per-Sienne, a duo for two C flutes, and Soloïst 3, a piece for solo double bass.
The Futur/Musiques Festival then commissioned three pieces from him: a string quartet, Miquitzli; a piece for an orchestra of 40 flutes, Pyanissimo; and an educational piece for 11 flutes, Phantasien.
In 1991, Christine Mennesson was selected for the composition program at IRCAM.
In early 1993, she left for Asia. The contacts she made during her stay with certain artists and thinkers had a lasting impact on her artistic research.
Christine Mennesson returned to Europe at the end of 1994. Most of her works were then created for Radio France or various international festivals (England, Spain, France, Romania).
Since 1998, Christine Mennesson has been giving lectures for professional musicians.
After serving on the Reading Committee of the 2e2m ensemble in 1997-98, she wrote articles for specialized journals (l’Intemporel, l’Analyse Musicale).
From 1999 to 2003, she was a member of the editorial board of the journal L'Analyse Musicale.
She also writes reviews for the general public for the music industry.
Winner of the AFAA's "Villa KUJOYAMA" program — Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Christine Mennesson was a resident at Villa Kujoyama (Kyoto) during the year 2000.
