Une heure et demie au piano avec un des grands artistes du genre, pour décrypter l’univers musical d’un géant du Jazz

 Antoine Hervé, pianiste-compositeur de tout premier plan, ancien directeur de l’Orchestre National de Jazz, offre aux amateurs de jazz - ou à ceux qui veulent simplement le découvrir - quelques clés pour entrer dans l’univers des grands du jazz.

 

Dans ce nouveau coffret DVD/CD de la Leçon de Jazz consacré à Thelonious Monk, Antoine Hervé, propose deux présentations de la musique de celui que l’on surnommait « Melodious Tonk » :

Un DVD contenant la matière habituelle des Leçons de Jazz à savoir des repères biographiques, historiques, sociologiques, ainsi que des analyses musicales et des interprétations plus ou moins proches de celles de l’univers du bopper, et en miroir, le CD « I Mean You » du concert donné en 1997 à la Cité de la Musique autour des œuvres phares de ce compositeur

Dans ce CD « I Mean You » et son livret de Franck Bergerot joint au DVD, Antoine Hervé exprime sa propre créativité en solo au piano, et montre comment la musique de jazz peut partir d’un point, puis voyager dans l’espace-temps en repoussant sans fin les limites d’une musique qui se révèle extrêmement ouverte.

En effet, dans les interstices de l’univers monkien, tout est possible. Monk ne révèle jamais tout, il suggère. De fait, il « érotise » en quelque sorte la musique, et permet également une passe de relais aux suivants qui trouveront toujours un espace ou développer leurs idées, la musique de Monk étant une terre d’accueil ouverte et généreuse.

À l'instar du processus créatif, c'est cette transformation, ce voyage d'un point à l'autre qui est proposé ici à l'auditeur.
